December 10, 2007


The December meeting of the Kennel Club of Texarkana was called to order at 7:00 at Gander Mountain by President, Deidra Campbell.

A motion was made by Jim Arnett and seconded by Sonya Jaynes to accept the minutes as presented. Motion passed.





President's report: Deidra Campbell commented that we are coming up on a new year and she is hoping things go well for the Club in 2008.

Secretary's report: AKC has requested the names and contact information for the new officers for 2008. This will be submitted once the new officers are officially elected.





Treasurer's report: Carroll Arnett reported the following balances:



Checking $1270.10

CD $9047.37

Money market Over $12,000.

Carroll reminded members that dues are due now. Only three members have paid their dues.





Membership Committee: Jim Arnett reported that the membership drive will be ending soon.





Dog Show Committee: Todd Jaynes reported that it is time to arrange for our trophies. Jimmeye Moore is the trophy chair. Jimmeye wants to solicit businesses to donate $250 per group for cash prizes, in addition to the towel prizes. Underwriting by businesses was discussed and this possibility will be explored.

A request for donations (such as dog food, pet dishes, etc.) by the community was discussed as a possibility to draw in more people. People donating would be eligible for a prize. This could be advertised in the You Can Help section of the paper.







Obedience Committee: Jimmeye Moore reported that Briana Francis will be assisting with the spring obedience classes. Jimmeye expressed her confidence in Briana and is expecting much success from the spring classes.

Spring classes will begin on January 15 at the ProSat building on the east side of the downtown post office. Classes will begin at 6:00. This will be the novice class. The cost is $60 for adult and $50 for puppy. Repeat students will receive a $15 discount. Briana will be the contact person for the obedience classes. Briana?s email address is brianafrancis@earthlink.net and her phone is 870-777-4298.

Jimmeye requested that no one interrupt the classes to correct the instructors. Everyone has their own method of teaching obedience. Discussions of this nature can take place after class, not during instruction.

Graduation for the fall classes will be on December 11 at 6:00 at the ProSat building.







Website Committee: Deidra reported that the new titles page will be starting anew for 2008. Please submit your new titles to the club email address on the webpage.


Christmas Party: Niki Mizell discussed the Christmas party. It was voted upon to have the party on Thursday, December 6. The time will be decided upon at a later date. The party will be held at Cattleman?s Steakhouse on Stateline Avenue . Anyone wanting to participate in the Chinese gift exchange should bring a gift valued between $10- $15. The meal will be at the member's expense.



Old Business: Deidra Campbell read the proposed slate of officers for 2008. This was the second reading of the new slate. Deidra asked for any nominations from the floor. There were none. The proposed slate is as follows:

Cherie Holmquist reported that only 15 people attended the Christmas party. A discussion of how to increase attendance at the party followed. A change of location and day of the week was discussed. Cherie organized a fun picture contest with cute prizes.







New Business:


BRAGS!!!!

Paula Cox reported that her Papillon, Dylan, won the first Award of Excellence at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship. Dylan also won best bred by and made the cut in the bred by group. At the Northwest Arkansas show, Dylan won the breed both days. Cindy was winners bitch both days. Smokey was winners dog on Saturday. Mackenzie was reserve on Saturday and George was reserve on Sunday.

A motion was made by Sonya Jaynes and seconded by Briana Francis to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.

The next meeting of the Kennel Club of Texarkana will be held on January 14 at 7:00 at Gander Mountain.

The general meeting of the Kennel Club of Texarkana was called to order at 7:00 at Gander Mountain, by President, Sonya Jaynes.

Claudia Bright presented a program about Norwich Terriers and Border Terriers.

A motion was made by Mary Pat Cothrun and seconded by Jennifer Campbell Freeman to accept the minutes as presented.

President’s report:  Sonya Jaynes reported that some members need to make their trophy payments.  Please contact Carroll Arnett if you are unsure if you have made your trophy payments. 
     Assignment sheets for working at the dog show were passed.  These sheets will also be emailed to members.
     Sonya designed a flyer for informing the public about the KCT.  These will be available at the dog show.
     Sonya wants members to be thinking about a new mission statement for the Club.  Discussions will begin at the July meeting.

Secretary’s report:  Paula Cox made available printed copies of the final membership list.  Also available were the Texarkana Animal Shelter day planner fund raiser forms.

Treasurer’s report:  No report.

Dog show committee:  Todd Jaynes reported that the raffle proceeds will again go to benefit the Texarkana Animal Shelter. 
     The newly formed Arklatex Golden Retriever Club has offered to help with our show.  Tina Lancaster is the contact person.
     Todd reported that due to his sister’s wedding, someone is needed to chair the raffle.  Judy Woods offered to take the position.
     There will be a dog show planning meeting on May 20 at 5:30 at McAlister’s Deli.   A motion was made by Todd Jaynes and seconded by Niki Mizell to provide chips, salsa and a beverage to attending members.  Motion carried.
     Todd summarized the jobs needed for the dog show.

New business:  There was no new business.

Old Business:  Sonya reported that the appreciation trophies are not yet ready.

Discussion and voting on proposed bylaws changes continued.

A motion was made by Cherie Holmquist and seconded by Todd Jaynes that all references to electronic submission be voted on together.  Motion carried.  This included Article III, sections 2,3, and 4.

A motion was made by Jean Nelson and seconded by Betty Nelson to change the word “approval” to “receipt”.  Motion carried.

BRAGS!!!!!

Betty and Jean Nelson’s Labrador Retrievers, Avalon’s Invader (Vincent) and Avalon’s Jungle Fyre (Rosie), shown in bred by, won winners dog and winners bitch on Saturday at the Denton KC show.  Rosie also won the breed and is the only “fox red” bitch to ever win best of breed.  She won over two specials.  On Sunday, Betty and Jean’s dog, Vincent, was again the winners dog.

Cherie Holmquist’s Weimaraners, Jasmine and Raney, completed the Red River Obedience training and will begin rally in July.

Paula Cox’s Papillon, Whisper won a four point major at the Fort Worth show in March.  Peyton and Whisper were winners dog and bitch on Saturday in Grove, OK.  Peyton was winners dog on Sunday in Grove.  Smokey was best of winners and best of breed on Saturday in Bossier City.  Cindy was winners bitch on Saturday.  Whisper was winners bitch on Sunday in Bossier City.  Whisper was winners bitch on Saturday in Denton and reserve on Sunday.  Smokey was winners dog on Sunday in Denton. 

A motion was made by Claudia Bright and seconded by Mary Pat Cothrun to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.

The next meeting of the Kennel Club of Texarkana will be held on June 9 at 7:00 at Gander Mountain.
